Since 2011, the Women and Children’s Health Network (WCHN) has brought together partners across our region with a shared goal: to strengthen care for birthing families, children, and youth through collaboration, coordination, and a commitment to excellence. Since 2015, this work has also included a dedicated focus on women’s health.

What began as a regional effort in Central North and Parry Sound has continued to grow and evolve. Today, we are proud to share a significant milestone - the expansion of WCHN into the Central South region.

A Stronger, More Connected Network

This expansion strengthens our collective impact and deepens regional collaboration, bringing together a broader network of healthcare providers, organizations, and community voices.

As part of this growth, we are excited to welcome six new Network organizations:

  • Southlake Regional Health Centre

  • William Osler Health System

  • Trillium Health Partners

  • Halton Health Care

  • Mackenzie Health

  • Oak Valley Health

Together, our expanded Network represents a diverse community of care providers, leaders, organizations, and individuals - each contributing unique perspectives and expertise.

Centering Community Voices

At the heart of WCHN is a deep commitment to community. Our work is guided by the voices and experiences of those we serve - birthing families, women, children, and youth.

We also recognize that language matters. While we use the terms “woman” and “women,” we do so inclusively - encompassing cisgender and transgender women, Two-Spirit individuals, non-binary people, and others impacted by women’s health.

We also acknowledge that not all individuals who access services traditionally associated with women’s health identify as women. To reflect this, we strive to use gender-inclusive language such as “birthing families” and “pregnant persons.” Our approach is grounded in respect, inclusivity, and person-centred care. Read our Statement of Inclusion here.

By bringing together partners from across the Central region, we are better positioned to:

  • Understand community needs

  • Identify and address gaps in care

  • Improve access and equity

  • Strengthen coordination across the healthcare system

Our members play a key role in translating shared goals into meaningful, actionable change that improves care experiences and outcomes across the region.

Looking Ahead

As we expand into Central South, our vision remains clear: to enhance the health and wellbeing of birthing families, women, children, and youth across our region.

As we move forward, our website will continue to grow as a central hub for learning, connection, and access—highlighting supports, services, and resources available to birthing people, women, families, children, and youth across both Central North and Central South. We are committed to making it easier for individuals, families, and providers to find the information they need and navigate the system with confidence.

We recognize that the healthcare system is complex—but through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to equity, we are working to bridge gaps, strengthen connections, and improve outcomes for all.
